Asbestos Surveys

Why is a Home Asbestos Survey needed?

The purpose of an asbestos survey in your home, or the home you manage, is to locate the presence of any asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in your property. It is also about assessing the risk of any asbestos found, and identifying whether there is a chance it could be damaged or disturbed without intent, which could cause serious risk to occupants of your home. An asbestos management survey is only required for buildings built prior to 2000, as asbestos was no longer allowed to be used in properties built from late 1999 onwards.

It is also important to note that an asbestos refurbishment survey/demolition survey is essential when demolishing a building, and are recommended before carrying out any refurbishment work on your home which could disturb asbestos – this could include extending or knocking down parts of your property.

What does it involve?

At DMG Asbestos Management, we carry out thorough inspections of your property in the least intrusive way possible. We will put together a detailed plan (see example) highlighting the materials in your property and where we need to check for asbestos during the survey.

On completion of the asbestos survey, you will be presented with a survey report sheet (see example), which highlights if and where asbestos has been identified in your home, as well as the type of asbestos you’re dealing with. We will then discuss with you recommendations for how to deal with the asbestos, whether this be sealing or covering the asbestos material to avoid disruption, or removing it entirely.
